Heavy Traffic Class 4 Licence

A Class 4 Licence covers a rigid vehicle with a gross laden weight of more than 18,000kg.

About the Course

You must get your Learner Licence at the AA or VTNZ before you come to us. To do that you must fill in a DL 1 form at the local AA or VTNZ, take your licence and something with your name and address on it (under six months old) and a Medical if you have not had one for your licence in the last five years. (You do not have to sit any theory for this at the AA or VTNZ) There will be a charge of $48.20 for this.

The Class 4 Licence can be done in one day if you have evidence of good logbook skills and have done Unit 24089. Otherwise, it is a two-day Course. The first day will consist of training and the filling out of one workbook on your Class 4 Licence and then you will sit the assessment test. If you are only doing one day, you will then be taken for a pre assessment drive which can take from 15 minutes to one hour depending on your experience. After that the assessor will take you for a practical drive.

Once you are competent on the Assessments and the Drive you will be given your Class 4 Licence Certificate to take to the AA or VTNZ. If you have to do the Logbook Unit Standard there will be a second day, you will be put through the training and workbook and then there will be an assessment test prior to the driving Assessment.
